SouthLand Dairy Farmers Seek Mobile Dairy Classroom instructor and Driver

The Mobile Dairy Classroom is part of a dynamic educational program operated by the Southwest Dairy Museum, Inc. d/b/a Southland Dairy Farmers. The 32 foot classroom features a fully operational milking parlor and carries a live dairy cow to schools, fairs, and festivals throughout Kentucky. Each Mobile Dairy Classroom program includes a 30 to 45 minute presentation by a trained instructor with printed educational material and a milking demonstration. In addition to our school educational programs, the Mobile Dairy Classroom is often a featured exhibitor in state, district, and county fairs. Instructors teach audiences:

• The importance of dairy foods in a healthy diet

• Modern environmental and food safety practices on a dairy farm

• The modern milking process

• Characteristics and anatomy of dairy cows

The Southland Dairy Farmers presently has an opening for a Mobile Dairy Classroom Instructor in the Kentucky area based in central Kentucky. Candidates for this position must meet the following qualifications:

• Be able to work independently

• Be a self-starter

• Possess the basic knowledge of dairy cows and the physical ability to handle dairy cows and the mobile dairy classroom unit

• Ability to speak effectively in public - often to large groups comprised of elementary school students and their teachers

• Enjoy working with and be able to communicate and interact effectively with elementary school children, as well as the general public.

• A good driving record and the ability to handle (or learn to handle) a large gooseneck trailer with a live animal

This position prefers a college education, but it is not a requirement. Knowledge of the computer and basic software usage is necessary. The work schedule is based on a 40 hour work week. However, the Instructor will be required to work a varied work schedule, including some weekends and holidays and, at times, starting very early in the morning and/or working into the evening. The position requires extensive travel within the State of Kentucky, northern Tennessee, and southern Ohio areas with occasional overnight stays. No tobacco use is allowed during business hours, as many of our venues are tobacco free.

Annual starting salary for this position is negotiable based on knowledge and experience.
