Greenhouse Operator

Bryce Daunhauer has been the co-owner of Daunhauer Greenhouse and Garden Center for 16 years after graduating from the University of Kentucky with a degree in plant/soil sciences with an emphasis in Horticulture Management.

This lifelong venture began by learning from his father (horticulturist) and grandfather (florist). Seeing their love for the work and the effort they had put into building a business, Bryce knew that he wanted to remain a part of it. Getting involved in 4-H and then FFA as early as possible, as well as being exposed to his friend’s farms, helped cement his interest in the world of agriculture and to build the skills he would later need.

At the garden center, Bryce oversees Spring, Annual, and Vegetable plant production, as well as most of the landscape/hardscape projects. This includes client consultation, design, and installation. “My favorite part of my job is juggling the day to day operations of the business - that might be making a cut flower vase of flowers in the morning, watering Poinsettias at lunch, and meeting with a potential landscape client in the afternoon,” he says.

Bryce urges aspiring agriculturalists to get involved as early as possible, and to explore the many different facets this field of work has to offer. 4-H, FFA, and Co-Op programs in highschool can be instrumental in simply being present on farm settings. Bryce himself wishes he had spent more of his time in college getting to explore how other greenhouse operations functioned, but has fully enjoyed his career regardless.
